FIACAT oral Statement
Item 3 – Interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants
50th session Human Rights Council
Thank you Mr President,
M. the Special Rapporteur
I am Sajid Khan Nasiri from Afghanistan. I’m a refugee here in Europe. I came here to save my life.
I was only 15 years old when I fled from my country because of the Taliban, who killed my father. My mother said go to Europe. you will be safe there. I didn’t know that going to Europe is far from safe. It’s the most dangerous thing that I have done in my life. I was almost 2 years on my way to Europe. I was pushed back many times at every border.
The border guards were wearing black masks. When they were deporting us back, they stole our money, mobile phones, shoes and jackets, even during snow season.
And they beat us.
I was stuck in Bosnia for more than 1 year. In every country I asked: please give me a legal stay. I am 15 years old. But instead they beat me and kicked me like a football.
I wish I could close this chapter of my life because I am safe now. But there are still many more children stuck on the European Borders. Who are still facing the same violence that I have faced. Last week I received a message that one of my friends killed himself by throwing himself in the river in Bosnia. He was 15 years old. I cannot forget him and all the other children.
I hope you will also think about them.
And I ask you to put an end to pushbacks and protect children on the move
Thank you.
