The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) holds its 56th Ordinary Session from 21 April to 7 May 2015 in Banjul (Gambia). During this Session, Niger’s periodic reports (8th to 13th) on the implementation of the African Charter of Human and People’s Rights will be reviewed. On this occasion FIACAT (a non -governmental organisation that has enjoyed Observer Status at the ACHPR since 1991) and ACAT Niger have submitted an alternative report.

This report contains information on the violations in Niger of Articles 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Rights.

FIACAT and ACAT Niger’s concerns relate mainly to the dispositions on death penalty present in the Criminal Code, the absence of criminalization and definition of torture, detention conditions and the absence of an independent National Preventive Mechanism with sufficient resources to perform its functions.
