Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) - December 2008

December 2008

[English] [français]

Seminar on the implementation in francophone Africa of the Robben Island Guidelines – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso)

Organised by FIACAT, jointly with the APT, this third seminar brought to a close the three-year project launched in Bujumbura, Burundi, in December 2006.

The 2008 session was held from 15 to 17 December 2008 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Bringing together twenty-six delegates from the thirteen French-speaking ACATs which are members of FIACAT [1], the meeting welcomed the Chairperson of the Follow-up Committee on the implementation of the Robben Island Guidelines for the prevention of torture in Africa, Madame Dupe Atoki. Contacts were established among thirteen civil society organisations and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).

The participants reviewed what had been learned at the previous two sessions (2006 Bujumbura and 2007 Bamako). A visit to the detention centre (MACO) in Ouagadougou enabled them to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired.
