The 49th Ordinary session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHP) will take place in Banjul (The Gambia) for 28th April to 12th May 2011. It will follow the NGO Forum.
The periodic report of Burkina Faso will be reviewed during this session. The Commissioners and Special Rapporteurs will also present the activities they undertook during the last six months.
FIACAT and ACAT Burkina will attend this session to present to the Commission an Alternative Report to the state report on the violations of Human Rights in Burkina Faso. The poor conditions of detention in Burkina Faso are FIACAT and ACAT Burkina’s main (preoccupation).
FIACAT will also organise, in partnership with Penal Reform International (PRI) and the World Coalition against the Death Penalty, a roundtable on the death penalty in sub-Saharan Africa; it will be chaired by Mrs Sylvie Zeinabo Kayitesi, chairperson of the Working Group on the Death Penalty of the African Commission against the Death Penalty.
