The Action of Christians for the abolition of torture (ACAT) French -speaking Belgium is a Belgian non -profit association established in 1985. Referring to the article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in communion with the people and organisations fighting for the abolition of torture and the death penalty, the association’s mission is to:

- raise awareness amongst the Christians and their Churches;

- incite them to implement all spiritual means, and mainly the prayer, to banish all cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment;

- carry out and support any non -violent action in favour of the victims of torture and the death penalty irrespective of their country and political, ideological or religious opinion;

- carry out an educative action in Belgium to prevent and denounce any act that could amount to torture or death penalty.
