Prison statistics in january 2020 :

  • Brazzaville
    • On 14/01/2020 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 616 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 81 % of the prison population
    • On November 2021 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 334 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 82.6 % of the prison population
  • Pointe Noire
    • On 14/01/2020 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 608 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 74 % of the prison population
    • On November 2021 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 575.7 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 84.6% of the prison population
  • Ouesso
    • On 14/01/2020 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 115 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 67 % of the prison population
    • On November 2021 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 80% and the detainees awaiting trial represented 53.1% of the prison population
  • Dolisie:
    • On 14/01/2020 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 55 % and the detainees awaiting trial represented 55 % of the prison population
    • On November 2021 : the prison had an occupancy rate of 37% and the detainees awaiting trial represented 53.1 % of the prison population

Results in 2021:

  • 106 court decisions were obtained
  • 105 representative from the prison staff, the judicial staff and civil society participated in quarterly working meetings organised by ACAT Congo on issues related to the administration of justice, the conditions of detention and the respect of legal safeguards.
  • 29 advocacy meetings were organised by ACAT Congo with its national authorities
  • 39 visits of the targeted prisons were organised 
  • 607 detainees were interviewed
