|Emergency in Burkina Call for an immediate return to peace|
FIACAT and ACAT Burkina remain concerned by the events that have been unfolding in February and March 2011 in Koudougou, Ouagadougou, and Fada N’Gourma. These events have led to loss of human lives, significant material damages, public disorder, and the closure of schools and universities.
FIACAT and ACAT Burkina condemn all violent acts which attack a population’s physical and moral integrity, lead to the loss of lives, or destroy property. Consequently, they demand that justice be handed down and reparations be paid to all victims.
FIACAT and ACAT Burkina call on the State of Burkina Faso to:
guarantee the security of persons living in Burkina Faso and remind forces that order, security, and defense are their primary goals;
ensure the independent and impartial character of justice;
ensure the that courses are able to continue in all academic establishments in the country;
establish a dialogue among all affected parties with the aim of diffusing the prevailing tension.
FIACAT and ACAT Burkina call on the state of Burkina Faso to open an impartial, independent inquiry with a view to creating practical solutions to the current problems, which could otherwise lead to recurring troubles for the country.
They call on civil society and military and paramilitary corps to join in a spirit of fraternity and strive for the return of justice and peace, paving the way for a democratic Burkina Faso.
