ACAT Benin was established in 1989. It is affiliated to FIACAT since 1992.

ACAT Benin’s mission is to raise awareness, educate and train the population on human rights and more precisely on the abolition of torture and the death penalty.

In order to accomplish its goals, ACAT Benin ensures the improvement of detention conditions by visiting prisons regularly. ACAT Benin gathers information on cases of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and alerts the international and regional human rights mechanisms.
