Supporting the work of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT) and the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT)

Since 2007, FIACAT has been part of an informal group of NGOs (OPCAT Contact Group, OCG) working to promote the optional protocol to the Convention against torture.

Since then, it participated in the meetings organised by the OCG on aregular basis.

These meetings offered the opportunity to exchange views with members of SPT on the challenges and obstacles to proper implementation of OPCAT.

FIACAT also contributed to a number of press releases and letters sent by the OCG.

FIACAT is at the disposal of the SPT and its Secretariat for any further assistance and expertise it can offer on implementation of OPCAT in countries where there is an ACAT.
