FIACAT and the Human Rights Council

FIACAT monitors proper respect of the implementation of international legal standards on the prevention of, and fight against, torture and other ill treatment by playing an active role in the Human Rights Council and its subsidiary bodies.

- FIACAT’s consultative status allows it to participate in and take the floor at ordinary and extra-ordinary sessions of the Human Rights Council.

- FIACAT regularly conveys situations of torture and violence reported by ACATs to experts of Special Procedures. It maintains particularly close relations with the Special Rapporteur on Torture.

- FIACAT has been involved in the process of the Universal Periodic Review since its creation. It trains its association members in order to allow them to participate fully in this mechanism.

FIACAT weighs in each time a country with an ACAT will be examined under the Universal Periodic Review procedure.
